The North Star

Alliance United is a non-profit aquatics holding company built to provide the infrastructure required for elite swimming to thrive in the Portland metropolitan area. Through a coordinated system of swim schools, competitive clubs, and centralized operations, AU aligns financial sustainability with athlete development, creating a model that enables long-term success in a sport constrained by access to water, fragmented programming, and limited scale.

By doing so, Alliance United becomes the connective tissue through which Portland emerges as a nationally recognized hub for competitive swimming.

Build The System

Alliance United organizes swimming in Portland into a unified, durable system. By bringing swim schools, competitive clubs, and shared operations under a single structure, AU creates alignment where fragmentation has historically limited growth.

This system is designed to operate efficiently at every level. Centralized back-office functions, standardized processes, and shared infrastructure reduce redundancy and improve performance across all programs. The result is a model where operational discipline generates surplus capital that can be reinvested into facility development, elite programming, and long-term sustainability.

AU partners with local governments, municipalities, and community organizations to align resources, expand access to water, and advance competitive swimming in the Pacific Northwest. These relationships improve utilization of existing facilities, enable future infrastructure development, and ensure the system scales in coordination with the communities it serves.

Rather than optimizing individual programs in isolation, AU builds an integrated platform where efficiency, partnership, and performance compound over time.

Control the Water

Elite swimming is constrained first and foremost by access to water. Alliance United addresses this directly by developing and operating a world-class competition natatorium capable of supporting national-level training and competition.

Water Ripple Effect

Controlling water access ensures consistent training conditions, removes dependence on fragmented municipal availability, and establishes the foundation required for elite performance. Just as importantly, it allows AU to allocate water strategically across the system—prioritizing high-impact usage, maximizing utilization, and avoiding underproductive capacity.

The natatorium is not simply a facility; it is the central asset of the platform, enabled and sustained by the efficiency of the broader system.

Competitive Swimming Race

Develop Competitive Programs

Alliance United builds and supports a portfolio of competitive swim clubs designed to develop athletes at the highest level. The club training out of the natatorium serves as the flagship program, with additional clubs operating under a shared system that aligns coaching, standards, progression, and back-office functions.

By consolidating administrative operations - registration, billing, staffing, and communications - AU reduces overhead across clubs and improves consistency in delivery. These efficiencies allow clubs to focus resources on coaching quality and athlete development, while contributing to the financial strength of the overall platform.

This structure creates a clear pathway from early competition to national-level performance, while ensuring that operational discipline at the club level directly supports the sustainability of the elite program and facility.

Expand the Athlete Pipeline

Alliance United expands access to aquatics through a system of swim instruction and complementary programming that serves as the entry point into the sport. Through high-quality, high-volume swim school instruction, along with adjacent pathways such as seasonal, recreational, or sport-adjacent aquatics, AU broadens participation, improves water safety, and creates a consistent pipeline of athletes progressing into competitive swimming.

Swimming Laps

This approach ensures that the system is not dependent on a single entry point or historical access to aquatics, but instead builds depth through multiple on-ramps into the sport, all aligned to a common standard of development and progression.

Harden the Economic Engine

Alliance United operates its swim school and related aquatics programming as a disciplined, capital-efficient revenue engine. These programs are designed to maximize return on water usage, prioritize high-demand programming, and avoid fixed-cost infrastructure that does not deliver consistent utilization.

In addition to swim instruction, AU will pursue complementary business endeavors that strengthen the financial foundation of the platform, leveraging operational expertise, water access, and system scale to generate sustainable revenue.

This economic engine funds operations, supports expansion, and provides the capital required to build and sustain the natatorium and elite programming. Financial discipline at the grassroots level is what enables long-term investment and sustainability at the highest level.

Our Ambition

Guided by these pillars, Alliance United will create the foundation to build and operate a world-class aquatic facility, develop a self-sustaining system of swim schools and competitive programs, and establish Portland as a national center for elite swimming—where operational discipline, financial sustainability, and athlete development reinforce one another over decades.
